Choose your chemical peel – guide

How to choose your chemical peel – basic guide

We love chemical peel and perform a variety of peel treatments on a regular basis to help clients and feel their best. Chemical peels provide outstanding benefits. The problem is that, with so many options, some people never make their move to get a peel that will meet their needs.

The staff at Viva Brazil spends time developing a skincare program that works for each unique client. Here, we offer a few basic details about which peel may be right for your particular needs. Keep in mind, one of the greatest advantages of chemical peels is that they can be customized. So, even if you would fall into a category of needing a deep peel, you can gain a lot from less intense peels, too.

Peels are also generally appropriate for all skin types (thanks to customization).

Light Peels

The basic chemical peel uses the gentlest acidic ingredients, such as hydroxy acid, to treat the uppermost layer of skin. A light peel may be right for you if you want to:

  • Smooth the texture of your skin and improve overall moisture.
  • Treat sun damage.
  • Control acne.
  • Improve skin color and vibrancy.
  • Treat the early signs of aging such as lines and wrinkles.

Light chemical peels can be performed as often as monthly for ongoing support. Slight redness and flaking may occur after treatment.

Medium Peels

A medium peel reaches medium depths of tissue using slightly stronger ingredients such as TCA, or trichloroacetic acid. A medium peel may be right for you if you want to:

  • Treat blemishes.
  • Correct hyperpigmentation.
  • Repair more advanced sun damage.
  • Create a smoother, more radiant surface

Medium peels may create a stinging or tingling sensation and do cause the skin to peel and possibly scab. The full transition of cellular turnover may take up to 10 days. New cells may cause the skin to appear rosy for a few weeks.

Deep Peels

The strongest peels have the farthest reach beneath the epidermis and thus achieve the most dramatic results in the shortest amount of time. The deep peel may use retinol or other ingredients to permeate the uppermost layers of tissue for the improvement of:

  • Skin blotchiness and hyperpigmentation caused by UV damage or hormones.
  • More prominent lines and wrinkles.
  • Freckles.
  • Pre-cancerous growths.

Because deep peels vastly increase cellular turnover, they also support collagen proliferation for lasting rejuvenation. After treatment, patients can expect swelling, redness, scabbing, oozing, and peeling. As new cells replace the old, skin appears years younger.
